NYU asked one question in their application:

Please list any other graduate schools to which you are applying, including other programs at NYU Stern or New York University (Limit 255 characters).

How to handle this one? what's the purpose behind that?

HI, Bro,

They want to know how you value an education opportunity in your career plan, how do you think of your application and what's your decision-making process. To answer wisely but safely, you may not put in your list those schools whose ranking and style are too different with NYU. Hope it is helpful.

they wanna telll whether you have a clear plan for your career by asking what other schools you have applied.
as the 2nd floor mentioned that you better not mention schools, which are very different from NYU from style and reasoning point of view.
another thing you can do is to briefly mention why you apply for those schools, along with NYU. this can even convince NYU to accept you.
