我选了E,看上去很工整，答案确实B，为什么？

B中that代替the distribution of mass避免了重复，比E简洁。
mantle surrounding the core也比从句更准确地表达了所需表达的含义。

根据LZM的说法：“当用某一物体的持续性动作对该物体进行限定性修饰时，应采用－ING形式，相当于表明此动作是该物体的一个永久属性。....如：the planet orbiting the Mar则表明只要the planet存在，orbiting的动作就一定存在，而THAT从句中的时态无法表示此含义。”P107
我同意他的这个说法，本题与他举的例子极其类似。THAT从句中的现在时无法表达这种永相伴随的特征。

困死了，这样下去语法对我会变成“格的拔河“猜想了

mantle只要存在，它就要 surrounding the core啊。
或者说只要地球存在，mantle就要 surrounding the core啊。
