[讨论]AI015, 憋了很久

15. “Nations should cooperate to develop regulations that limit children’s access to adult material on the Internet.”

As Internet becomes more available, we have enjoyed the convenience it brings to us, convenience that facilitates our access to obtain information. However, internet is just like a pool of information, with no filters to get rid of some “bad” ones; so it bears the possibilities that not everyone get the “right” information, especially children. To solve this problem, the author here suggested that nations should cooperate together to develop regulations limiting children’s access to adult material on the Internet. To a large extent, I agree with the author.

In the first place, regulation is necessary to keep children from visiting pornographic websites. These materials are especially designed for adults, who have the ability to make judgment and to control their feelings, most importantly, whose ideas of sex and personal behavior would not be easily influenced. Unlike adults, children, curious about sex and easily evoked, do not form such views yet, thus could be heavily affected by these material, which may insert wrong ideas to them. Consequently, boys and girls may have problems building up healthy relationships. What’s more, it is possible that these materials lead to some kind of juvenile delinquency as children have the nature of imitating. The negative effect is hard to be quantified and qualified.

In the second place, national cooperation will be indispensable, for only it could guarantee a success. Because technology makes it possible to visit websites of almost every nation, regulation aiming at limiting access of children to adult material in one country is of totally no use. A successful solution to this problem could only be achieved by uniting all the country. For example, if the US has passed a law prohibiting children visiting adult websites and Japan has not, children from the US may switch to Japan’s website to satisfy their demand.

However much I agree with the author that nations should cooperate to limit children’s access to adult material, there is one point I want to address: limitation is not a means to solve the problem entirely. Without websites, children could obtain adult material by other means, such as magazines, if they like. Probably education is the best and permanent solution, for a good education really nourishes one’s soul.

In conclusion, I agree with the author that national cooperation is necessary to limit children from adult material on the internet. We should also note that, other solutions may bear more merits.
