Can you please briefly introduce your new job in Danaher GMDP?
In the General Manager Development Program(GMDP), I will rotate in three to four roles in at least three functional areas within a projected span of six years. Along the way, Danaher will propel me toa leadership role by providing support and critical feedback from senior executives.
Can you please share with us your personal career strategy at that time? How does this new job fit into your career strategy?
My career interest has always been to working industries that have a direct impact on helping people enjoy a better life. Healthcare is one of the industries that I have always looked at. After graduation from National Taiwan University, I set a plan to first acquire strong working experience in the 7-8 years that followed, then to apply concrete professional learnings and enrichthem with an MBA. Added to that, I also wanted a change in geography.
I am very glad that IMD put me on the right track with well-rounded curriculums, leadership coaching sessions and projectssuch as the Start-up project and ICP so that I can establish results and relationships that outlastthe 1-year MBA.
How did you find out about this job opportunity? Our CareerDevelopment Center (CDC) works closely with many well-known international companiesand these companies came to IMD for campus recruitment. Danaher was one of them. I applied for the job but it took 2 months before I got the invitation for the first-round interview. During those 2 months, I felt a bit anxious, but my career mentor shared his job-hunting experiences in the past and helped meturn the pressure into a better preparation.
Are there any tips or advice for students interested in applying to similar jobs?
First, get to know yourself better. i.e. Do industry analysis and think about what you are passionate about? What kind of job is a good match with your interests and long-term goals? Second, build your network and be able to reach out to experienced people when you feel lost and have to face great challenges. Talking to my career mentor helped a lot. Third, it’s never too early to start the above work and preparations.
