我刚看完这题，答案是b，可数名词单数形式不能单独存在。

normally, trasport is used as a verb,here should use transportation ya ,my 2 cents

steamship缺少冠词，改为复数并不合适，因为句子的主语是单数the riberboat,所以是a simpler steamship.
