Thursday with Ron 有专门一节课讲了verb的名词形态和gerund（verb+ing），比如destroying（verb noun）/destruction（noun）

Verb NOUNS:是客观的，1)表示这个行为的整体概念，并不表达主语直接做了这个动作/事情

I have dedicated my career to the exposure of injustice in the court system.
= “I am somehow involved with the exposure of the injustice, but not necessarily directly( maybe I donate money to a charity that does this)

Verb+ ing: 1) 表示主语实际上做了这个动作/事情 or

I have dedicated my career to exposing injustice in the court system. =” I am the one who has actually been exposing injustice”

2) 句子的重点在于表述一个由人完成动作的“过程”（步骤过程or执行过程），即便句子中并没有直接说谁完成了这个动作
Swimming is good exercise.

所以不一定说，verb noun就优于gerund，但是verb noun is better的概率会更大
