几个争论颇大的语法题的权威解释－1 天山3－20

这是我考前发信想我在美国的英语老师，一位拿了牛津斯坦福等几个文学博士的老师询问的结构，我相信是比较权威的了。虽然是我考完后才收到回信的，但希望能给正在奋斗中的xdjm带来帮助和安慰，也算是自己在CD的一点点贡献和对CD朋友们几个月来帮助的点点回报吧：）

格式是这样的：

网络讨论：

1. C中的 heavily barbed and staying where it is inserted这种修饰结构好像是ETS比较喜欢的。

另外，results in 比 with the result that 更简洁

2. E with 作状语解释不通.前面是IS和STAYS两个动词,一个是状态,一个是动作,WITH怎么能伴随这两个动作表示一种结果??

3．选项C和D说:

The honeybee’s stinger results in the fact ...

蜜蜂的针导致蜜蜂受致命伤的事实，逻辑不通。显然应该是蜜蜂的针刺进（敌人）体内这件事才能导致蜜蜂受致命伤，对吧。在GMAT中逻辑不通是绝不可姑息的致命错误，比歧义和wordy的罪大得多吧。其实这题五个选项都丑，就看谁罪小些。E也丑，with作独立成分，丑点但逻辑上还通，所以，我选E。

我的提问：

I choose C myself. but someone argued that it is not the stinger itself but its stay results in blabla... and ETS usually prefer to "with" structure like this. However, I think the use of "with the result that" is much more adundant than "results in". Again, considering the subject which results in the consequence in the sentence, i am not sure about C myself... HELP!!~~~

我老师的回答：

With regard to the honey bee's stinger, I think E is the right choice because of what your friend said. It's the staying that causes fatal injury, not the stinging alone. E is also just better written in every way.
