我试着回答下。。
正句意思是说Anne Carson的这本书Nox刻意要做得和电子阅读器带给读者的感受相反。电子阅读器的设计目的是要让读者在阅读的时候越来越感受不到阅读器的存在（轻薄便携之类的设计），而这本书是要做得笨重（厚实，有手感）。套用Manhattan的方法来说，Target是Nox这本书（也就是literary object），clue是"designed to vanish in your palm as you read on a train"这个属性，pivot是"opposite"，选项就是clue+pivot: cumbersome unwieldy fit.

It's telling you that this textbook can take the place of other textbooks, so it must be more comprehensive/exhaustive

(i) needs a positive word that aligns with "high" standard -> admirable
(ii) needs to resonate with the phrase "continuing assaults on her reputation" -> unappreciated
