(E) Marconi conceived of the radio to be a substitute for the telephone, a tool for private conversation, other than what it is,我觉得这一题我宁愿猜A也不选C，GMAT很多题涉及到定语从句都会有指代问题，一般都指代紧跟着的名词， C that跟的是对话，我就理解是修饰conversation。A除了一点不简洁，没有其他语法问题。
所以请问名词后有介词短语，是不是说，定语从句可以跳过介词短语，修饰前面的名词？？谢谢。

A的问题太大了，A的意思是conception是一个substitute for the telephone
C没啥问题，none+介词短语 +that modifier 中，that modifier 可以修饰none

之前见过版上有讨论这题的，提到跳跃修饰，说是当主语修饰语很长而谓语修饰语或宾语较短时，为了避免将这部分放在后面产生的歧义，先把该说的说完，然后再接修饰语。

而且，也可以根据逻辑意思来理解。这题句意是说，本来M的观点radio是用于私人的，但是结果却相反，所以that是指代radio的。

好的。然后作为对比，我发现一句：
B Potter，in her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives.
分词不能跳过介词短语修饰前面的名词。

对，原句我没有写完，因为错误在前面，现在分词不能跳过介词短语修饰名词。我也是想提醒一下自己。谢谢！
