2016 Melbourne Finance Doctoral Information Day in Hong Kong
On the afternoon of 28th September the Department of Finance at the University of Melbourne will hold an information session in Hong Kong describing the Department’s doctoral program in Finance. Our world-class program begins with two years of advanced course work in finance, economics, econometrics, mathematics and statistics. Dissertation supervision is provided by the Department’s faculty. The faculty regularly publish in the leading Finance and Economics journals. Generous scholarships, fee waivers, conference attendance reimbursement, and a research allowance are available throughout the degree.
The Department of Finance at the University of Melbourne wants to attract the very best doctoral candidates to study with us. The Department has recently hired Professors Peter Bossaerts, Federico Nardari, Carole Comerton-Forde and J. Spencer Martin and a wonderful group of young graduates from BI Norwegian Business School, Tel Aviv, Bocconi, Warwick, the University of British Columbia, Georgia State, UC Santa Barbara, the Swiss Finance Institute, the University of Texas at Austin, Kellogg, the Cambridge Judge Business School, the University of Southern California, Tilburg, Columbia, Wharton, and Cornell.
The information session on the afternoon of 28th September will be followed by a dinner for participants. The information session will be presented by five faculty members of the Department of Finance and will describe
the structure of the Finance PhD,
the research and publications of the Department’s 42 faculty members,
the Department’s weekly seminar series and annual Finance Down Under Conference,
the Department’s large set of data bases,
the application procedure, and
the funding, support, and placement of our doctoral students.
Up to 10 applicants from around the world will be selected to attend the session. Successful applicants who are neither residing or studying in Hong Kong will be provided with accommodation at the venue hotel on the evenings of September 27th and 28th including internet access and breakfast on the following mornings plus reimbursement (with receipts) of the cost of direct return economy airfares to and from Hong Kong.
Those wishing to attend should send an email to Jenny Chen jiani.chen@unimelb.edu.au with Hong Kong Melbourne Finance Doctoral Day in the subject line. The brief application email should have a pdf attachment that contains:
(1) the applicant’s CV which must include the applicant’s contact details,
(2) a maximum one-page description of a research project undertaken by the applicant as part of their current or past studies, and
(3) a maximum one-page statement of interest in future doctoral studies in Finance.
Closing date for applications: Friday August 26, 2016. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by Monday September 5 and must confirm their attendance by Friday September 9.
