还有，这种heart patients’ exercise/the exercise of heart patients 是不是相当于实意名词呢？不能与athletes exercising（曼哈顿里面的complex 动名词）平行？

1、as well as和both and都是Gmat认可的平行结构。
正确例句OG16-70：The nineteenth-century chemist Humphry Davy presented the results of his early experiments in his “Essay on Heat and Light,” a critique of all chemistry since Robert Boyle as well as a vision of a new chemistry that Davy hoped to found.

2、heart patients’ exercise/the exercise of heart patients 两种说法都是实意名词。
但athletes exercising整体不是一个名词，而是主语+动名词。exercise本身就是名词，平行结构需要用名词时优于动名词exercising。如果要表示实意名词，必须改成athletes’ exercise，这样才能和heart patients’ exercise平行。

我是觉得as well as是一种伴随性质的平行，就是A as well as B中的AB实际上是不平等的，因为谓语要和A一直嘛......然后both and就完全是平等的.....是我的错觉么？

可能会点微小的句意差别，但是没看到GMAT测把这个当必错点！

另外，我还没找到包含as well as在主语中考主谓一致的题目。如有的话可以发出来讨论讨论

这道题如果按尊重原文的逻辑语义来讲，我还是觉得换成both....and'...不好，理由就像你缩的
但是as well as的不平行伤害太高。。。。
