ANS : 2.........why can't choose 1. ? [ Many nineteenth-century lumberjacks were farmers ( who are ) tried to earn extra cash.]......why can't ?

……( who are ) tried to …… 变成被动语态了。这题考点应该是分词短语trying to ……做定语吧。
