Nowadays, people tend to enroll in technical colleges rather than universities. As far as I am concerned, the characteristics of technical colleges, requirements of today's jobs and concerns for financial problems would account for the phenomenon. Technical colleges are the kind of institutions which provide students with skills directly and closely related to what their future jobs would require. Those who attend this kind of education would not be bothered to study to spend precious time learning subjects and knowledge unassociated with the field they would set feet in. Compared with this characteristic, talents in universities would have to distribute their time evenly on a variety of scientific fields. Considering this aspect, ordinary people living in the modern society who growingly concentrate the efficiency and ouput on what they do would have rather choose technical colleges instead of universities. Besides, requirements of jobs also play an important part in contributing to the trend. Quite numbers of jobs do not demand applicants to have a good command of theories in the related fields, but rather the abilities to put what candidates have learned into practice. Programmers of computer softwares would be capable to get jobs done with only skills to program while not mastering how the mechanical language originates and why the terms should be used in certain ways. Today, generations of undergraduates and graduate students are unfortunatly deprived of power which jobs are really in need, because univeristies focus more on theories but not developing practical skills. Consequently, in order to meet the demands of society, most people abandon their opportunities to univeristies. Furthermore, as is known to all, it could cost more to register in univeristies than in technical colleges. As courses are more concentrated on how to train students to be masters of certain skills, the cost of the college would be dramatically reduced. In addition, students would spend less time studying schools, the expenses would be comparatively lower than those of their counterparts. Since students are under the lowest ladder of society, low tuition would be given priorities over other factors when applying for schools. Thus, students would more interested in technical colleges for the sake of saving money, reduce the potential financial burdrens from supporting studying and paying more attention on their studies. In a nutshell, all the three points are among the most significant factors attributed to the phenomenon. It is people's instincts to satisfy the demands of modern world that lead to the tendency. Also defects of universities are main reasons that they lose their market to their technical counterparts Word Count: 429 |
