Nowadays, there is a large quantity of movies, serious or amusing, American or Chinese, long or short, for people to choose from. It is obvious that different people have different prefer. While many people like amusing movies, I strictly adhere to serious movies.

The main purpose of amusing movie is to make people happy and kill their leisure time. However, seldom do I want to choose movie as a kind of entertainment. I have a lot of things to do, instead of wasting time on an amusing movie, which do not provide any useful information. For instance, I like to listen to country music, such as Country Road or Susanna, because I will have a feeling of my hometown. Or, I can have a talk with my friends, exchanging our ideas about contemporary political affairs and expressing our homesickness since we all are not local. By doing these things, I will be happier and be improved.

As for movie itself, I think it is a tool for us to understand the past , the present, and the future. For example, when we see newsreels of the Massacre in Nanjing, we will have a deep understanding of the upset history of China and become more patriotic. How can an amusing movie lead to that? Besides this, serious movie will engage us in the thinking of some neglected things in our daily life. Take the movie The Day After Tomorrow as an example, it makes us aware of the environmental destruction in the world and concerned about our future. However, it costs a large sum of money, a great number of people and lots of time to make a movie .We should get enough benefit from a movie, not just laughter.
