People work because they need money to live. What are some other reasons that people work? Discuss one or more of these reasons. Use specific examples and details to support your answer.

 

 

It is somewhat a non-negotiable truth that work has become the core of our daily life. Obviously, the basic reason of working is that people need to earn money in order to afford their living necessities, pay children’s tuitions, returning mortgages, traveling, enjoy recreations and even purchase some luxuries. However, money is hardly to be the only reason of working. There must be additional meanings existing for one to work hard during most of his or her life.

 

In a sense, people go to work for the reason that they need to contact and cooperate with others. There is scarcely anyone that can live by himself all alone through his life. The desire of being together with someone else is the basis of human being. Through working together, people enjoy not only the happiness of a successful job, but also the exchanges of views and feelings. Perfect teammates in a company are of highly chance to be good friends in their leisure life. We may cite an example of New Oriental School that the chairman Yu Minhong and the director Xu Xiaoping have been colleagues for decades. And the intimate friendship between them is also well known in the corporation and the public, which also benefit the development of their careers. We all need the connection with others, and work is one of the best ways to build this connection.

 

In another sense, people work for attaining psychological satisfaction. We can’t have a life without encouragement, and we need a place to show that we are special in doing something. Thus, a game named “work” which is created by people themselves comes into everyone’s life. In this particular game, people are ordered or driven to do something. And awards or prizes are offered when people have done such things excellently. These awards or prizes are not only wages or bonus, but sometimes exist in another form, which are the recognitions or commendations from others. It is these recognitions and commendations that provoke us to work harder and living better.

 

Work is the essential driving force of the development of our society. People who work in different professions are make effort to achieve their own accomplishments, which all together assemble to a whole that contribute to the entire improvement of our life. Although money’s magnitude cannot be ignored, we must recognize that work doesn’t merely lead to money, and the other elements which work brings to us are the true spirits of thousands of years of people’s working history.
