Do You Agree or Disagree with the following statement? Technology has made the world a better place to live?
Technology is an essencial part of modern life. Admittedly, it does have changed the way people live and it is hard to imagine what the world would be like if technology doesn’t exist. On the other hand, without technology, the planet where we live might also remain the congruity, both interpersonally and naturally, which was maintained millions of years ago by our ancestors. From my point of view, technology doesn’t actually promote the living condition of human beings today.
The most fatal problem of technology is its limitation. That is, not everyone can benefit from technological products. Take vegetables for example. In supermarkets, vegetables are categorized into two parts-- organic and non-organic. Non-organic vegetables, which are planted under a special technology which can maximize their nutrition and keep them from pest attacks, are usually twice more expensive than organic vegetables, which are planted without such protection and may carry pesticide that does harm to human’s health. This means only rich people can have the priority to benefit from advanced technology. Furthermore, there still are people whose living conditions were below poverty line and cannot even afford ordinary food. So tendency of developing technology nowadays is on the wrong truck. Technology is not a method to flatter the rich. It has to be born to help those who in need.
Additionally, because of technology, those who get profit from technology are apt to be more and more dependent. While the computer system broke down, people who rely on computers have nothing to do apart from waiting. This situation often happened in banks and tickets-booking offices where most of the business are dealt by computers. When the network of ticket-booking office for 2008 Beijing Beijing Olympic Games broke down couple of weeks ago, even a single ticket cannot be sold and the officers were getting rather frustrated. The same thing happens in factories since most factories have been utilize machinery in place of manual laborers. When machines are not working out of many reasons, the factory would suffer a great loss for having no goods produced.
Finally, advanced technology are becoming fairly evil when a war occurs. Modern weapons have experienced a revolutionary change for the sake of the introduction of technology. Bombs are becoming much more devastating and guns are getting much more accurate. As a result, wars are costing more lives than has ever been before. And most unfortunately, among the victims, the number of the innocence is times more than the number of soldiers.
To sum up, technology can make our life much better if it goes to the right way. If scientific researchers process it more cautiously and use it properly, mankind will have a glorious future; if not, the outcome would be desastres.
