108. Some people believe that the best way of learning about life is by listening to the advice of family and friends. Other people believe that the best way of learning about life is through personal experience. Compare the advantages of these two different ways of learning about life. Which do you think is preferable? Use specific examples to support your preference.
Nowadays, people learn knowledge and about life through various ways. Some people may present that the best way to learn about life is by listening to the advice of family and friends because they know more than one person could have. On the other hand, other people insist that the best way of learning is through personal experience since the experience of other individual can not take place of own feeling. It is obvious that different person has different opinion according to his/her different priority. As far as I am concerned, I would appreciate the former because of the following substantive reasons.
The first plain truth, I am rendering, is that other people such as our parents and friends often have more experience than us so that listening to the advice of them broaden our horizon to the life. More we listen to them, more knowledge we learn. Taking use of their experience and our own judgment, it is natural that we can easily solve many problems and obtain much accomplishment. Moreover, there is no necessary to learn everything by oneself. For example, involved in a terrible traffic accident in no case is not a pleasant occasion. We need not to try that, but rather take the advice of driving carefully.
Next, there is no denying that other persons sometimes know us better than ourselves. Listening to them, we would not only avoid the dilemma we might have to face, but also know ourselves more deeply. As Chinese saying goes "Friends are the mirrors of us", their advice often point out our shortcoming and the possible consequences that are beneficial to us. Without their advice derived from their experience, we should face the situation ourselves and learn lessons from failure and success which may cost much time and energy. Due to such advantages, taking the advice of our friends is a wise way to learning about our lives.
Admittedly, learning knowledge from personal experience has its advantages to some extent. For instance, the lesson from failure often tells us how to face the failure and what is never giving up. However, if all the factors are contemplated, the merits of learning from other people carry more weights than learning from own experience.
To sum up, judging by above reasons, I would significantly agree that the best way of learning about life is listening to the advice of family and friends. In fact, I prefer to talk and gather with my friends frequently for not only enhancing our relationship but also learning much knowledge I do not know.
