In short, the opportunity cost for me to Harvard is really high (half million loss in 2 years). All I want is just to prove myself once in my life, and that's it. Maybe the more important thing in your career is your creativity and related management experience from the real world.
I really don't know if I should go or not. But I'm thinking about the offer seriously,at least 50% chance I'll go to Harvard to chase my dream. BTW, I got my phd from Boston, it is a really nice place for students except the long & cold winter...
I would be in the same boat if HBS accepts me (I applied R2). The opportunity cost for me will be over $500K in 2 years. If HBS rejects me, I will feel sad for a day or so and then move on. If HBS accepts me, I will really need to think hard. My wife wishes me to get in HBS but gets scared of this possibility at the same time. The only good thing is that my wife's company has a site in Boston so she can transfer to Boston. You should also consider Wharton's EMBA because you can keep your current job and cause the least impact to your family. I know two people from Apple who did Wharton's EMBA and got promoted very quickly. On average, the post-MBA salary increase for Wharton's EMBA graduates is 101%. |
