Do you agree or disagree with the followingstatement? It is more important for the government tospend money on improving Internet access than on public transportation.

Nowadays, with the swift development ofmodern society, the demand of people is increasingly harsh. For government, itis a tough question to decide that investment should be put in which area- theInternet or the fundamental transportation. Some people believe thattransportation should be put in the first place due to its imitate relationshipwith everyone. Whereas, some suggest that the officials pour money into theimprovement of the Internet access. From my respective, the latter viewpoint ismore reasonable. Several dimensions of the topic will be illustrated in thefollowing sections.

No one can deny the fact that we live in an information explosion society, in which the Internetplays a vital role, and therefore the government ought to pay more attentionand resource to it. For one thing, the Internet supersedes(exceeds) othermedia- newspapers, magazines, TV, etc. -in providing an ocean of variousinformation to the public. The male or female, the old or young, and the blackor white can obtain their wanted messages from the Internet. For another, thereis growing tendency that more and more people, who used to not rely on theinformation highway, turn to allow it exert profound and important influenceson their daily lives willingly or reluctantly. Studentsescape from the constraint of paper-books andteachers, and instead gather useful study materials online; some retailers, whoare weakened by the onslaught of online shop stores, have to set up their ownstores on the Internet. Thus, due to the significance of the Internet in themodern society, it is sensible for the government to spend money on enhancingthe Internet.

Also, as a potentialtechnology, the Internet, which still has some unregulated aspects, needs thespecific management of the government. Undoubtedly, the Internet saturates almost everyone's life directly or indirectly. However, some negative matters have already happened through the Internet. SomeIT companies design internet games, in which students get absorbed and on whichspend a lot of time as well as money. And thereby, these game designers gain alot of money from young students, actually teenagers' parents, making parentsand teachers urge the government to exert restrictions to these companies. Somecrimes deceive others to get money through sending e-mails, which manifests thenecessity of managing and supervising the Internet. It is the government thatcan undertake such a crucial responsibility and achieve such a huge goal.

Admittedly, advanced transportation- highspeed railway, airplanes etc. can shorten the distance of people and savepeople’s time; however, from the discussion above, it is crystal clear that thegovernment should enhance the Internet access by investing more money on thatfield. On the one hand, the Internet is the main contributor of the informationexplosion; on the other hand, if the government did not regulate it, it wouldcause adverse effects to the public.
