Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The most important problems affecting our society today could be solved within our lifetime.
Oceans of problems harass our society recently. Of these problems, a couple of difficulties could be overcome in our generation. However, since the development of science and human natures is unlimited, quite a few problems cannot be conquered within our lifetime. As materialism philosophy pointed out, the society is infinite and evolution is the natural subject of the whole maternal world. Thus some of the most important problems affecting our society could not be solved within our lifetime. First of all, the nature is not stable. Our earth has experienced several geological period. Ice age and warm age arise by turns in the history of earth. We are now facing a severe environmental problem-the global warming. It is universally acknowledged that fossil fuel burning along with unlimited deforest accounts for the green house effect which accelerate the global warming. By no means will this problem be solved in a few decades. Due to the fact that the green house gas has already been filled in the atmosphere and the fact that we cannot cease to use fossil fuel, the global warming issue cannot vanish at least in half a century. In addition, we are also confronting the scarcity of resources and the ozone inanition. No technology could be used to ravel out these environmental matters in recent years as suggested by scientists. Furthermore, in the economic field, we are experiencing the most serious inflation and unemployment. The “weird circle” that involves the interest rate and macroeconomic operation has depleted numerous heart bloods of our economists. Nevertheless, we still have to suffer depression-prosperity intervals. In winter, plenty of workers lose their jobs and the consumer price rises sharply. It is at least after a few decades that the problem will die away. Consequently, we have difficulties to settle these economic matters within our lifetime likewise. Meanwhile, in other fields such as the political and cultural fields, we inevitably come across problems such as distrust between nations, proliferation of nuclear weapons, territorial issues, and cultural invasions. In light of the foundation from which these problems come out and in terms of their long-term continuance, we cannot guarantee that such problems will be resolved in the near future. As demonstrated above, there are large amount of problems affecting our society that we cannot clear away in our generation. What we should do in our lifetime is to try our best to do research and improve the technology to diminish these most significant issues tampering our well-balanced development. Moreover, I believe that one day our offspring will resolve these problems in their time; I believe that one day the globe will become more charming, and I believe that one day we will feel more fulfilled in comparison to now.
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Some people think that a university professor should focus time on doing research; while others think that the main role of a professor is to educate students in a university. What is your opinion and why? It is cited that some people think that a university professor should focus time on doing research but others insist that professor should focus time on teaching students. Apparently, this is an either-or choice fallacy. As advocated universally, 80-20 Principle, one of the most viable approaches to deal with various options, gives rise to solution and liberates professors’ time or energy. Accordingly, I believe that university professors could invest majority of their time to the academic research and meanwhile spend some time on education. To begin with, professors were hired by universities initially resulting from their brilliant academic achievements. Moreover, professors contribute to the society and the modern world by their research, which would one day convert to be the productive forces. Researches and experiments are the essential ways that the professors alter the world. For example, Isaac Newton discovered the Law of Gravity, forming a new stage for classic physics; Dr. Yuan Long Ping invented the cross bred paddy rice, resolving the problem of starvation; Professor Peter Crock renovated the modern management science, providing more pragmatic methods to operate organizations. Were they devote their entire energy to teaching, perhaps, their students could make such achievements, but they could not leave those valuable wealth for us by their own. Furthermore, students are the critical part of universities. Professors, in terms of their position, have to educate students. It is not a waste of time, but a necessary step to achieve better academic performance. They will promote themselves as they teach their students the new findings and theories. Once professors cultivated extraordinary students, these young generations will broaden the scope that the professors’ research, enlarge the analytical fields, elongate the theoretic value and reverse the fallacious assertions. This year, the Noble Prize of Economics was awarded to two economists who contribute to the Game Theory. Surprisingly, they borrowed or learned knowledge from a same professor. By no means will it be a coincidence. Students always inspire the teachers and inherit the research so that would not let the scientific findings bury into the graves with their founders. In brief, professors in universities become intellectual because of their researches and experiments; professors’ achievements in part attribute to their intellectual students and followers. Consequently, researches must be the primary tasks for professors and at the same time they should squeeze part of their time staying with their students. Only in this way can they be more creative in their academic career.
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Colleges or universities should offer students a better job preparation before they start working. Use specific reasons to support your answer. Plenty of individuals argue that universities are places where students learn knowledge, deal with scientific papers and academic performance. Hence they believe colleges or universities should focus on academic issues and diminish other efforts. However, as a senior who is about to accomplish the campus life, I strongly hope that university could provide a job preparation so that we are able to step into the society with much more confidence and adaptations. I believe that job preparation is a bilateral benefit for both students and universities. The reasons are conspicuous. To begin with, job preparations will fairly benefit the graduates. So far, numerous college students fail to find a job simply because they lack knowledge of what the future would be or where they should go. They have no idea about the resume design and job interview. Were universities hold several extra-curriculum trainings or hair some tutors in the job preparation divisions, students will surely have a more clear consideration about the employing process, and obtain better jobs after graduate. Moreover, it is also believed that job preparations, in turn, would have an positive impact on the universities that offer the preparation. Not only will the students with higher social status promote the reputation of their alma maters, but also successful graduates, no matter in business fields, political fields or art fields, will appreciate the universities and donate large amount of wealth and properties to the universities. As universally acknowledged, alumni system is a significant part of the college system that all the universities would like to pay great attention to. Therefore, by offering job preparations, universities can receive better reputation and maybe rank better in the future. It is a critical step to achieve “elite education” once the adaptation and preparation are offered. In a conclusion, I, perhaps along with students from various universities, strongly cling to the recommendation that school provide orientations and job preparations to their students. In fact, current analysis implies that the best-known colleges, such as the Ivy League schools, are most likely to attribute their success to the extraordinary alumni. Apparently, job preparations offered by universities will lead to bilateral benefits for both students and universities. Consequently, I intensively recommend universities have such preparations available to students. |
