TWE17,14. Thank U
17. Conventional means in education indicate that most people might learn with a teacher better than by themselves. As far as I’m concerned, these two methods are respectively suited for persons in different stages of study. For children or most teenagers, learning with a teacher can be a more advisable potion, while a bulk of adults is supposed to choose to teach themselves.
On one hand, children’s brains don’t grow enough mature to consider some perplex problems or learn some comparatively difficult knowledge. Only under a teacher’s instruction could children learn more effectively and efficiently. A child is likely to cease learning as soon as he or she comes across a question which may be easy for adults, but extremely complex fro children. Hence, a teacher is tremendously necessary for children to study.
On the other hand, a large portion of adults whose brains are mature enough to solve the problems they meet during their study, because of this, adults are in possession of sufficient capability to learn by themselves. What invariably happens is that a teacher may become a barricade for them to reflect some problems.
Admittedly, there are some advantages for children to learn alone and for adults to learn with a teacher. Such as children could develop their ability of thinking and adults could exchange their thoughts with teachers. But balancing the two sides of each, I insist that children should learn with a teacher, adults without a teacher.
14. Every university student is supposed to attend some required classes and choose to attend some optional classes. But there is no doubt that nearly every student has skipped the required classes or done some other things which are irrelevant to the classes, such as sleeping or talking with others.
There is a universal view of traditional educators that university students should be required to attend classes. They insist this notion for the reason that as a human nature, sloth may make it possible for most students not to attend most of the classes. To some extent, it may be true that several students might be absent is a few classes.
Standing on the opposite side, numerous students along with a small portion of educators hold the opinion that students should have rights to choose to attend the classes they like. They also argue that the compulsory adoption which the teachers use only make their students more likely to skip the classes.
I should confess that there are a bit of rational points in each of the opinion. However, as a university student, I can never fail to be fascinated by the latter notion. We are not able to deny that university students are not children any longer and they definitely possess their own thoughts. Hence, no body can force them to do things they don’t want to do with ease as to children. Everyone is born to pursuit his or her interest. University students are not exceptional. They should have choices to learn what they are most interested in. Also, this method can avoid the absence of students’ and the absent-minded students, which will make teachers much more hilarious.
To put it into a peanut, that students have option to attend the classes is more advisable.
