People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment – doing things they like to do – rather than doing things they should do.
Along with the rapidly development of modern society and the booming of the entertainment industry, there is a growing tendency for public people these days to take part in recreation activities. Some claimed that people today spend too much time doing things they like to do rather than doing things they should do. As far as I'm concerned, the time people spend on what they should do is as much as, if not more than, on personal enjoyment.
I have to admit that more time is spent on entertainment than before. For example, people go to different kinds of restaurants to enjoy the delicious food. What's more, there're a lot of parities where friends get together and have fun. However, those who believe that people spend too much time on enjoyment fail to take into the account the fact that in current society, most enjoyment are fee-paying. It depends on people’s work to earn enough money to enjoy the entertainment items. Therefore, more enjoyment means more hard work. For example, people who want to enjoy playing computer games have to pay money for the Internet bar or purchase a computer. Only by doing a lot of things they should do can they afford their personal enjoyment. So time spent on these things is more.
Further more, there is no denying that today people can enjoy many qualified entertainment. But it is universally acknowledged that competition becomes more and more intensive, which places great pressure on people in modern society. In fact, they have less time for entertainment. In order to support their family and provide better living conditions for them, people have to spend a lot time working and the win the competition. For example, despite the strong will to go home and have dinner, office workers have to work extra time for the project of the company. As for students, the knowledge accumulated in an exponential speed in modern society, the workload for students in school is much heavier than before. They have to spend much time studying in order to find a good job and have a bright future. Therefore, people indeed do what they should do more, because they need to make a living and live a better life.
As a matter of fact, sometime the things people like to do are just what they should do. For instance, the writers love writing which is also what the writers ought to do. In this case, time is spent on both personal enjoyment and what they should do.
All in all, I strongly believe that people spend time on personal enjoyment less than on what they should do.
