waterloo出來在academic就業不用擔心吧~幾個大牛panjer之類的和SOA的chair都在那~雖說在加拿大找美國教職也是木有問題的~想進industry的話我有個認識的Waterloo OR的phd能拿到NYC大摩onsite interview~

temple做RM的faculty不是很多吖~而且有一半是做health benefit的偏文的不是很quant咯~去Waterloo吧還是建議 直接發的精算phd 好猛啊~一般都是MM再轉的說哦~LZ一定背景很強悍 呵呵

恩 waterloo出来在北美行内名气都很大无论是academy还是industry。奖学金的话去到过半个学期一年内很容易变成全奖的~老板的话滑铁卢猛人多着呢，呵呵不用担心。还有就是老板带几个学生的问题啊~滑铁卢老师多一点吧~好像cummins是好多phd的advisor~这个也要考虑下的说

Hardly heard of B-School postdocs in US...

Transferring to a PhD in Wharton is impossible...U can take another shot after getting a Master of Math from waterloo which it does have then quit and reapply, which might work but is not suggested from my prospective because I believe Waterloo itself is no worse than Whaton in the RM field.

However, they dont have a master program offerred in Temple, which means u have to risk ur own RP and beg to an irritated advisor for a degree as well as ur recommendation letter cause u've already been assigned ur adisor in ur offer letter

While talkin about placement, I highly doubt PhDs from Temple could do better than those from Waterloo in either RM or Act Sci...Since as a top-1 program in North America, waterloo's alumni have won enough academic reputation, which can be considered a guarantee for a fine AP position among universities in US, Canada and even Europe.

My suggestion is definitely waterloo.

那必须不要Waterloo啊 Wharton就是Econ,Insurance的研究,看看那些教授的research就知道了，都是life insurance, social security,employee benefit national insurance这种的研究
人家不用搞精算的 才叫Applied Econ的  你看哪个学校有Wharton毕业的professor 你就去哪个 Wharton的梦想我也有，不过真的现实点吧。。 Wharton的本科都进不去，大学transfer还是进不去，Phd就更进不去，Post就更进不去， 加油吧

U've totally no idea what act.sci. is about. Doin' research in it has nothin' to deal with passin' SOA. Many big guys in the field only hold ASA. 做精算research不等于做精算师，OK？你家professor都是CFA FRM么？

Waterloo is absolutely not famous for its SOA exam passing rate or things like that. Actually many newly accepted master level students there have already got 4 or more exams passed.

Econ stuffs in RM and Insurance r quite different from financial risk management. They r kinda related to health management, employee benefit and pension plan. I've attended some lectures of those kinds, not that quantitive I feel...It's of a different track.

做精算的能做RM， QTang不是么，可是RM做不了很多计量的。

根本都不用比的waterloo和temple...如果不是看多点钱份上

不单止所有美国学校，加拿大也是3门以上都是overqualify的，只有waterloo会敢收过5门进Master Program的，这你就不知道了。去年PhD还招了个Wharton的Master，LZ拿到这样的机会一定要珍惜啊

没说QT是沃顿的，说他是UI精算的可做的是RM，Heavytail Dist.

商学院没有博后，想进沃顿除了AssistantProfessor就是重新申请PhD。所以我说读两年quit了拿个硕士再申还有戏。你看沃顿AP都是哪里毕业的，有没有可能有Temple级别的。Temple沃顿毕业生多管个什么用。毕业placement怎么和waterloo比呢？GSU精算系头Wang就是waterloo的

现在说的是temple毕业的placement啊。人家毕业出来要去好学校啊。你让人家接temple出来再多钱也就去teaching school啊。

我好像木有说它烂这么狠吧...只不过保险的教授会提起一些PhD项目和各个地方的老头子的趣闻轶事可是没有听过有人说temple。

我也去看了下那个placement的link，PhD去的学校真不咋地这个真的很关键。和UWM UWaterloo GSU Wharton这些学校的出处差好远。这里可以看出业内名声不咋地...可能言重了吧，可是至少学校是和滑大没法比，先勿论是不是去商学院。滑大出来也不见得是进统计系。GSU系主任不就是在商学院么？

Madison的精算风险管理很强大吧 和Michgan精算都是老牌项目了，GSU的项目最大，沃顿就不用说了，这些在美国是最有名了，另外还有iowa和uiuc。

说实话，美加的program有点互相BS的感觉。加拿大就靠滑大撑着。滑大可能真的没有想象中那样强大，可是毕竟不是temple u能比的，教授资源，传统积累，校友资源，行内口碑，可能楼主你们国内本科学精算知道学校比较多。

在我们这如果是一般门外汉，甚至都会把精算等同于滑大。
