congrats first! to my knowledge, neither operations mgmt nor business econ has a big job market in the states each year. om's is traditionally small, wharton's grads alone can fill in a large portion. business econ seems rosier, but u r right, u may have to compete with econ guys on the mkt.

frankly, it seems a bit strange to me why u applied om & econ at the same time since u may land in widely different areas of research. om could get extremely technical along the way, if that's what u like, then fine, go for it. but if u r not quite sure about what fields u r interested in, maybe business econ is ur thing since u can have the option to choose later. even if u r not quite into econ theory, u can still do empirical research and go onto the mkt with strategy guys. btw, umich's business econ dept has some quite famous organizational economist in their program, like scott masten (nobel winner oliver williamson's first phd student) and francine lafontine (who made her name after tons of research on franchising contracts), just to name a few.

glad my comment helped. i do have some personal views on the smaller field of organizational econ and strategy (not strategy in general, since there are many org theorists out there). but it's kind of hard for me to describe that in a post like this. how about we chat via msn or gtalk sometime, if that's ok for u?
