If you agree with the idea that one should always tell the truth, here are the possible reasons:

1. Truth hurts, it may also jeopardize the friendship.

2. "Girlfriend" example (Y'know, it all about... If your GF asks you is she fat, you always gotta say ABSOLUTELY NOT, or you are gonna get punched...)

3. Government sometimes has to keep the troops movements in secret for the country's safety, so they always need to lie a little bit.
