The difference between China MBA and US MBA

Dear all,

I would not disclose which school I am from and which school I am studying at to avoid unnecessary argument, so I am using a new user name. I just hope my words can give those candidates in hesitation in choosing US school or China School more information.

After finishing the MBA study in China , I had opportunity to come to a top school. To study as an exchange student. What I feel so far for the gap between Chinese school and US school lies in following aspects:

1. School brand among IB and Consulting firm: I met many Chinese students here. The Chinese student body is not better than my student body. However, if you want to go consulting firms, you may want to come US. It's extremly hard for Chinese to go IB industry. Lehman Brother recruit more than 50 students from this school in these a few years, no Chinese student got offer. However, if you want to go consulting firm, many of them got opportunities to join Bain and MKS. The students who got opportunities to join the top consulting firms are not better than my classmates in China. But because of the school name, they have more opportunities.

2. Diversity: I read a few sentences engraved in plate within the campus. From diversity came learning. From learning came understanding. From understanding came Excel. The student body here are really diversified. Our Chinese students are more or less homogeneous, while the differences among US students are bigger than Chinese students. Moreover, many more other nations students are here. We Chinese students may want to open our mind to listen to other's opinion and appreciate the differences among us.

3. Networking: American students have numerous parties here. Sometimes within one day from 6 pm to 11 pm, you got opportunity to join 3 different parties. However, it is hard for them to build very close relationship between each other. In my school, I can ask some classmates how he/she run the business and how he get the business relationship setup. In US, there is no way for US students to share such kind of confidential information. The networking of them is more on working/business relationship, while Chinese one is more on personal relationship.

4. Professor and academic education: No big differences, the professors here teach less and guide the discussion more. While the professors in China normally guide less, but instruct more. However, due to Chinese students are not that willing to participate class discussion, the teaching style may be fit in China.

5. Hardware: They are better, but I do not think that it is the key factor and we Chinese schools are picking up very fast.

To be continued.

Dear Modern

What I want to say is almost any top IB and consulting firm will come to this campus and recruite students. Lehman Brother just treated us a dinner and today Mickincey came to treat students dinner. However, they are recruiting XX MBA rather than exchange MBA. The school name will help you in short term. BTW, Is ranking that important? It seems only Chinese students pay much attention to the ranking. If you are good, I believe a top 20 -school would be able to offer you a good flat to excel. Got friends graduated from Rice and started with more than 200K USD and friends from MIT without a decent offer. The school name can help you a little in the long run.
