Gall's hypothesis of there being different mental functions localized in different parts of the brain is widely accepted today.

答案是C，我的问题是A选项OG说there being is not a precise expression，为什么？？？虽然比起C来啰嗦点，但是这个算硬伤么？还是说there being这个有别的用法？谢谢NN回答~

关键split：noun vs. that clause；meaning
A. of后面不能完整的解释hypothesis；if the description of the hypothesis includes a verb， then the proper idiom is hypothesis that + clause
B. that的位置引起句意的改变，原句想表达的是一个关于“different mental functions are localized in different parts”的假想 → 现在变成了一个关于 different mental functions的假想（至于mental functions是怎么样的我们不知道）；of后面不能完整的解释hypothesis
C. 正确
D. which is that 很wordy；there are是dummy subject，unnecessary，应该也能跟different mental parts做主语强调整个理论的完整内容
E. which这里作为essential modifier修饰hypothesis，传达出来的意思是：the one hypothesis（of all of Gall’s hypothesis）that is widely accepted today → 原句的意思从来没有表达过only one of Gall’s hypothesis is widely accepted today；错误

但是我还是不明白为什么of后面不能完整解释hypothesis呀。。。为什么非要用that而不能用there being呢。。

换个句子你看看

the fact that different people love different color..
that解释了这个fact的具体内容：不同人爱不同颜色

the fact of there being different people [loving different color]
这句话的重点是：the fact of there being
变成是在说：有那么一群不同的人这个事实，后面的loving是在修饰people

I've never heard of bees stinging dogs. -->WRONG
I‘ve never heard of the fact that bees sting dogs. -->RIGHT

哦哦，所以应该是the fact of that there being是吧？只不过这种比较啰嗦了

there be 是个描述性的动词
往往都可以直接转换成更简洁明确的主语+谓语
SC里一般都避免使用 there be [刚刚在分册做到一题正确答案涉及there be, 因为其他选项都更烂]

好吧，我刚刚查了一下，原来我想的there being的用法是做介词宾语，比如这句话：There is now some hope of there being a settlement of the dispute.

这里的there being a settlement of the dispute就是用来说明hope的，换成OG的题目里面，there being那句话也可以说明假设的内容啊
之前是被绕晕了，但是A选项是我本来读起来很顺的感觉（虽然后来也选了C，语法本身表达不来，就觉得读起来没有问题，后来查了网站才发现这个叫介词宾语。。。。）
