标题: 07prep SC1 Q133 mostly为什么错了
In the past several years, astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets, most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle other stars.

(A) most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle

(B) most of them as large or larger than Jupiter and circling

(C) most of them at least as large as Jupiter, circling

(D) mostly at least as large as Jupiter, which circle

(E) mostly as large or larger than Jupiter, circling

答案是C,我想问一下为啥mostly错了。。。

mostly修饰什么呢?  副词要修饰形容词吧~修饰large? mostly large? 这个逻辑是不是有点混乱~
LZ自己想想~

哦 我理解了。。。这里确实缺乏合逻辑的成分让mostly修饰,mostly也不能修饰前面的名词。。。

Ron的解释。跟二楼的一样。
in any case, "mostly" is absolutely not acceptable here. "mostly" is an ADVERB, so it's stuck modifying the adjective(s) that follow -- i.e., the meaning of this sentence would be "mostly, but not entirely, at least as large as ..."
this is a total nonsense meaning -- there's no way to make sense of it -- so it's incorrect.
short version:
an adverb can't modify "planets", which is a noun.
