5.Of all the vast tides of migration that have swept through history, maybe none is more concentrated as the wave that brought 12 million immigrants onto American shores in little more than three decades.
(A) maybe none is more concentrated as
(B) it may be that none is more concentrated as
(C) perhaps it is none that is more concentrated than
(D) maybe it is none that was more concentrated than
(E) perhaps none was more concentrated than

OG给的解释：
C it is none that is more ... is wordy; also, in this context, it must refer to something (unlike in phrases such as "it is clear that..."), yet it does not plausibly refer to anything.

D As in (C), it is none that was more ... is wordy; it must refer to something, yet it does not plausibly refer to anything.

G友们，C，D选项是我们熟悉的强调句吧，强调的是主语none。为什么OG给出的是这个解释，强调句it is + 强调内容+that …… 是固定句式，it的指代从来都没有考虑过，至少我是这样的。这里OG给出的这个解释，让我很抓狂，难道老外没有强调句一说吗，如果又为什么要用it的指代问题来作解释？可是prep里面明明就是有两个强调句平行的题目啊！

还是说it is none that is more concentrated than……, 把none看成先行词的定语从句，这样讲it确实无所指代。
是这样吗？

看了一些前人的讨论，我觉得我最能接受的解释是这样的：

perhaps none was more concentrated than the wave that brought 12 million immigrants onto American shores in little more than three decades.
这个句子即使要强调，也不是强调None这个主语（很明显作者要突出的是被对比的那一部分）。
所以 it is none that is more ... is wordy。（感觉Gmat里面大部分句子好像都不需要使用强调句型，用了反而更可能不对）
在不是强调句的情况下，it自然就没有指代了。

那it is no one that...是不是也错呢？还是有特殊语境的要求？

这个根据 perhaps是书面语一下子毙掉三个剩下两个最后一个明显好~

老美他们很少用强调句的感觉....我记得考t的时候也有听说写作尽量少用强调句用不对还很奇怪当然这里是题外话啦

从intended meaning出发，这题根本就不需要强调。即使需要强调，如楼上所说，强调的内容肯定不会是none。其实划线部分的错误在于verb tense，因为后面有brought可以判断为过去式，但是整个句子的意思和逻辑都没有问题所以不用修改。所以在不是强调句型的情况下，C和D选项it不是形式主语，没有指代。

错，语义在于对比，而且我记得og中关于强调句有解释，有理由才能用强调句
