标题: OG 116 except为什么是介词

116. Mauritius was a British colonyfor almost 200 years, excepting for the domains of

administrationand teaching, the English language was never really spoken on the island.

(A) excepting for

(B) except in

(D) but excepting for

(E) with the exceptionof

为什么这里except 是介词呢。介词后面是不能跟介词短语in the domains 的啊。只有连词才能跟介词短语么不是。
求解~~~

except作为介词，是可以加介词短语的。我们平常也时常用啊，比如I always feel happy, except with him.或者I walk to school each day, except on Friday.

我的笔记里面写着介词后面只能跟名词，代词，v-ing。except是特例可以加介词短语吗？

对滴，亲，记住是rare exception就可以了
