E选项OG解释: The participial phrase does not clearly modify book illustrations; the relationships among the parts of the sentence are unclear.
但OG没有解释为什么不可以用coordinated做谓语和capitalized 平行。

RON：Ron's referring to a pronoun that refers back to a noun that is in a prepositional phrase. Pronouns are clearer in meaning when they refer back to a subject or object of a sentence:
But in general, the only time you should use a pronoun that refers to a noun in a prepositional phrase is when there is no other logical antecedent in the sentence.

E答案的them只可能指代前面illustrations.

E选项被判定为错误不是因为them的指代问题。

E中，and的使用错误。这里的and把本来在逻辑意义上不是同一priority的描述链接起来，造成原来句子重心改变，给了she coordinated...太多emphasis。and两端不仅要求语法结构平行，逻辑含义也要对等。

E里面的them，technically speaking是可以指代illustrations的。但intuitively,读E的时候会在them这顿一下，感觉有点不知从哪冒出来，要刻意往前找。这明显就劣于C选项，C里避开了代词的使用，which明确修饰illustrations。
代词指代模糊与否一般用来进行选项之间的优劣比较，而很少作为判定对错的惟一标准，有很多正确选项也有在technically上指代模糊的问题，但根据当时的context，这种模糊不会造成读者理解偏差。所以lz切入点可以稍稍换一下，多看看正确选项的代词指代。

in fact, i have no idea of the formal explanation for this error; as a seasoned writer, i just know that "things that look like this are wrong" (as i'm advising you above). the following is completely made up off the top of my head, but i'll try my best to come up with some sort of justification.
my best shot at explaining this:
when you have a prepositional phrase at the beginning, like that, the sentence is grammatically identical to what it would be if you placed the prepositional phrase later on (but still somewhere that preserved the meaning). so, this sentence is identical to
Beatrix Potter carefully coordinated them ... in her book illustrations,
in which "them" clearly can't stand for book illustrations.

i hope that helps. but, again, seriously, you are FAR better off just committing this particular case to memory and eliminating any future choices that happen to look like it.

E选项在原来的OG版本里面应该讲过them不可以指代前面的词
