Salt deposits and moisture threaten to destroy the Mohenjo-Daro excavation in Pakistan, the site of an ancient civilization that flourished at the same time as the civilizations in the Nile delta and the river valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates.

(A) that flourished at the same time as the civilizations

(B) that had flourished at the same time as had the civilizations

(C) that flourished at the same time those had

(D) flourishing at the same time as those did（A）

(E) flourishing at the same time as those were

Choice A, the best answer, uses the simple past tense flourished to describe civilizations existing simultaneously in the past.

疑问1：这里的flourished应该是修饰前面的civilization吧？为什么书上说是后面的civilizations？
我总觉得是civilization的flourished伴随后面的civilizations的flourished才对，所以这样才会n+v和n+v并行？

that flourished 到最后 that 引导了的定语从句 都是修饰 civilization。

og的解释 其实是想 解释 at the same time as....
这里其实是想说 the site of an ancient civilization 也就是 Mohenjo-Daro excavation in Pakistan
与 civilizations in the Nile delta and the river valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates.
繁荣(flourished) 的时间 是 在同一时期。

我觉得你对题目的理解没错哦，但是对书上解释的理解好像不一样。
我觉得书上对于A解释的意思是说，flourished描述（在这里不是修饰）的是“同时期的civilizations”(就是后面的civilizations)。因为两者是平行的，所以都用同样的谓语动词来describe。
