标题: 求助啊~有关比较。
求助！刚才在看一道prep的讨论，

然后有个NN的解释里面提到这样一句话，引用一下：
The rates of birth in China are much higher than those in US.
这句话就是一个典型的错误，因为those是要指the rates of birth in China整体，因此不能如此使用，必须用一个概括性的名词代替。
那这个句子应该怎么改呢？不是说比较的时候单数用that,复数用those代替么？这里的those不是代替the rates of birth么？

指代 从来不能指代一个整体或者一个事情，指代it those都是指代前面曾经出现过的单词，这里The rates of birth in China are much higher than those in US. 前后比较的是rates， those指代的是rates 而不是一个整体。

那这句话The rates of birth in China are much higher than those in US. 应该是没有问题的吧?

LZ的这个问题，让我想到了一个还算类似的题目~
In the 1980’s the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970’s.
(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than
C选项正确~~
大NN说those指代整体，我不太同意啦，我更倾向于用its指代the rates...

如果说这句话有错误，是不是修饰语位置的问题,可否改为：
The rates of birth are much higher in China than those in US.

这两个句子还是有区别的
你说的the rate of increase里面rate是单数啊，所以后面也是it,
但是the rates of birth里面rates是复数啊~所以应该还是用those才对吧~

我觉得第一个句子看起来好像比第二个句子要更常见。。。。=_=
真的不知道是错在哪里了！会不会是nn搞错了举了个错误的例子

LZ没有明白我的意思~~不在于单复数问题，而在于用it/its（复数）还是用that/those的问题~~这两种指代是不一样的~

prep08有写it，they，their和that，those的指代区别
前三个应该指代核心名词还要包括修饰核心名词的修饰语
而后两个只指代核心名词

这道题就别争了。google过根本搜索不到The rates of birth in China are much higher than those in US=》这句句子题目的出处的，也许根本就没有GMAT的原题，只是wangjialei这个CDer当初引用的一个例子。
在CD上都是各抒己见，也不尽每个人的想法都是对的。有时看prep笔记有的思路在遇到GMAT真题也会发现行不通。所以别传牛角尖了，与其花这个时间去想怎么改对，不如多想想办法怎么让自己选对来的更有效，更加重要
