标题: prep1-Q39

The Sports Medicine Programs of the Olympic Training Center, a complex where final tryouts are held for athletes representing the United States in the Olympics, is geared toward enhancing athletes' performance and toward their preparation for international competition.

(A) is geared toward enhancing athletes' performance and toward their preparation

(B) is geared to enhance the performance of athletes and to prepare them

(D) are geared toward the enhancement of athletes' performance and toward preparing them

(E) are geared toward enhancing the performance of athletes and preparing them

此题的答案是E。
是因为be geared toward doing 么？这是个固定搭配么？

答案不是E吧……E中them指代谁呢？前面只有The Sports Medicine Programs 和athletes是复数n，但是指代谁都不合逻辑吖……
我觉得是C，不知道对不对……

是不是固定搭配就不知道了，但是词典给出的例句后面都是doing或名词，给个参考吧~

He said it is a request geared toward disturping public order.

prep 给的解释是固定搭配 gear: verb. (usually passive.)if someone or sth is geared to (+noun.)or towards a
particular purpose, they are organized or designed in order to achieve that purpose.对某事物加以调
节以适合某种需要或达到某种水平或标准

排除C是因为不平行但我怎么觉得C才是平行的呢

我不懂耶，如果preparing和enhancing平行的话，不是得把toward补出吗？介词短语平行有补出原则啊，are geared towards V-ing···and towards V-ing···
C的话让 athletes' performance and their preparation平行不行吗

是的，这题我也有疑虑，为什么不是C，笔记说是因为“专有名词的复数:专有名词的复数跟普通单词一样,在词尾添加s表示复数概念”但是为什么原句未划线部分同位语是“ a complex where final tryouts”？是不是应该当单数主语来理解呢？求高手出来

楼上有一个解释应该是正确的，我也选错了，但是唯一能理解的就是，them的指代不应该是athletes而应该是sports medicine programs , 意思是，调节这个programs来做两件事 1，enhancing the perfromance of athletes 2 preparing the Programs for international competition （就是调节这个programs使它符合国际大赛的标准）

不知道这样理解正确不，期待牛牛解答

GMAT语法中选择是相对正确的答案，而不是绝对正确的答案。
确实E的答案也不是最好的，如果有toward就完美了。
但是，相比较A,B,C,D的错误，这个错误不是那么不可原谅，其他四个犯的是correctness的错误，而E是相对正确。

看到很多人提到Prep给出的解释，请问Prep上的题目，都在测试软件上能查到解释吗？在哪里查呢？

关于them是指代athletes还是progarms,还是不知道——就算enhancing和preparing平行，也不能说明them指代的就是句子主语programs吧？仍然可能是指代athelets——不过似乎对解题不重要。从平行和必须有toward这两点，就可以选出正确答案。只是句子理解不透，有些纠结。

C中的performance和preparation并列：动宾搭配enhence performance正确，enhence preparation搭配不当。所以C错。

当前面句子中出现两个以上的复数名词时，their结构上应该就近指代，但这道题里their逻辑上应该指代athletes，但是athletes是所有格形式
所以不能指代，只能变成是指代program，指代错误。
E中的them就可以就近指代athletes了。
如果指代没问题，我觉得应该是平行的。

而且关于平行结构中，介词补充是要在，有三个并列句子的时候，如果前两个句子都补充了，那么第三个句子一定要补充介词，如果只是两个句子并列，那么省略或不省都可以。
三个句子时：
for..., for... and for... 或
for..., ... and...

很抱歉，但这个解释是错误的，虽然我们说一个代词是不能指代处于所有格（'s形式）的先行词的，但是一个特例就是如果这个代词也是所有格代词，例如这个题目中的their，那么指代是没有问题的！

我感觉a complex修饰的是olympic training center。。。两者也相邻了，满足noun modifier的rule，但是以前，或者说在正确答案里真没见过这样同位语不修饰前面核心词的。。。

那么我觉得这个题的c的唯一解释就是enhance preparation改变原意
