标题: OG-12单复数问题
Rising inventories, when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth.

(A) when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead
(B) when not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, possibly leads
(C) when they were unaccompanied by corresponding sales increases, can lead
(D) if not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads
(E) if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

这里B用possibly leads，OG说要用复数，难道Rising inventories不是当做一个整体来看，动词应该用单数么？卡在单复数上，希望大牛给予解答！

rising inventories不是动名词短语，是现在分词短语，rising做定语修饰inventories，主语是inventories。

1、动名词和现在分词的判断

在doing N结构中，如果N是doing的发出者，那么doing是现在分词
如果N不是doing的发出者，那么doing是动名词

2、只有动名词才能作为主语，从而被看成一个整体；现在分词可以做定语、表语、状语等等乱七八糟的修饰成分

动名词的例子：
Collecting stamps is interesting.
此处，stamps不是collecting这一动作的发出者，不可能是现在分词，因此collecting stamps是动名词短语，看成一个整体，谓语动词用单数is

rising inventories不是动名词短语，是现在分词短语，rising做定语修饰inventories，主语是inventories。

inventories应该不是rising的动作发出者吧，不应该是某人把inventories提高的么，这里是不是跟rise/raise区别有关，如果用Raising inventories 应该就是动名词了，是不是这样的？

rise是inventories 发出的，你可以查字典
If something rises, it moves upwards.
He watched the smoke rise from his cigarette...
The powdery dust rose in a cloud around him.
所以这里是做定语修饰名词
