我知道答案在d,e之间，正确为e，问题是我并未看出用when和that有什么不同，这里有什么语法知识点吗？何时用when何时that？，还有是否也与用“the"修饰brain和increase，以及neurons和canaries有关？还请大牛指教。。。。。

同问啊同问啊~~这里的问题是不是 when placed 完整结构是when they are placed 而这里的they 要优先指代主句主语 N?

i think

D has two mistakes.

1) when needs to be followed by a clause... also, D is confusing. the brain growth in mice when (XXX) placed, is it brain or mice that is placed in envt?

2) the use of "the" is faulty here. it seems to mention the "brain growth" that has been mentioned previously.

E is better....
