标题: OG12SC-70 为什么完成时不对！求助！！

70. His studies of ice-polished rocks in his Alpine homeland, far outside the range of present-day glaciers, led Louis Agassiz in 1837 to propose the concept of an age in which great ice sheets had existed in now currently temperate areas.

(A) in which great ice sheets had existed in now currently temperate areas

(B) in which great ice sheets existed in what are now temperate areas

(D) when great ice sheets had existed in current temperate areas

(E) when great ice sheets existed in areas now that are temperate

这道题整个句子的的时间段落是 an age - 1837 - now, an age是一个在1837年前的时间，而从句中明明是发生在1837年前的事情但是使用了过去时态并没有用过去完成式?

这里的完成时怎么和now 搭配呢？选A的话错误在于用词重复

我也明白A是错误选项，now和currently意思重复
但是也不明白为什么B是正确选项

lz纠结的太多了，我感觉时态问题是最后考虑的，如果说得话，过去完成时态也是可以的

没有理解的题目就等于白做了哇~~

但是我有看过之前的帖子，解释了一堆很复杂的原因，实在是没看懂，现在分享一下
要是有NN看懂了，来吱一声！

The giveaway there is "now currently," which is redundant.

I don't think that there's an actual GMAT question with an answer that is wrong solely because it uses simple past when past perfect is justified.

Notice justified. The Strategy Guide examples you cite show when past perfect is appropriate, but it past perfect isn't required in every such tense.

但是你可以看看我提供的链接~36楼说了一些关于为什么完成时不太正确的理由，这大概是我没有理解的地方

en,那个36楼解释的很清楚，过去完成时其实偏向于用于描述，而一般过去时是在陈述客观事实。once the police arrived, the rapist had already left. 这个描述就非常恰当，had很好地强调了police来晚了。而题目中....led.....an age in which ... existed，仅仅在说一个概念，完全没有强调时间exist是在lead之前的必要。

也许我不应该说过完是错误的时态，而是根据逻辑意思来判断，一般过去时跟能表达意思！

叶永昌的英语阅读参考手册中有这么一段话：出去假设句外，在表示过去的过去这类句子中，若出现表示过去时间的绝对时间（如 in 1976等）或以今天时间作为基准而表达的相对时间（如 yesterday，last night等），则仍需用过去一般时

看完后就可以这样记住：GMAT语法中，过去完成时只能这么用

具体是什么我就不说了

参见OG 12 第655页：　used with 'had been", this verb form describes an action of some duration that was completed before another pas action occurred.
