答案是e，句子前一部分我能理解，但是我不懂the
chemical irritant的用法，它放在句尾是个啥意思啊。。。

我觉得the chemical是dioxin的同位语，irritant修饰the chemical,省了that is

恩，貌似解释上也和ls说得差不多，但我就是不太懂这个句子
能不能把完整的句子写出来告诉我呢？

the chemical (that is) irritant就是dioxin的同位语，只不过放在了最后因为中间插入了the production of enzymes 的that从句（that are the
organism's trying to metabolize, or render harmless）
