这道题为什么是A，而不是E？
A）doubling看起来是修饰整个前面的句子？
B））在comma后使用不定是-to double是对的，但是这句子可起来说使用cocaine的本意是为了double the number in the report，不对。
C）those指的是number or young adults，What is the antecedent - young adults(plural) or number(singular). It should clearly refer to "the number".
D) as much as 不可数，而young adults 可数的，不对
E）Twice the number” completes the comparison with “20% of young adults” – a number.对的。

这上面就是我的分析，大家说说为什么是A，而不是E？谢谢了。

是否是因为 20percent不是一个具体的数字，不能用the number, 应改为 twice the percent

我的理解也是the number不能指代 20 percent

这题的correct answer我看了很久都应该是E，而不是A。不知道大家有没有人手里有正确的answer。
因为A-doubling 不可能是修饰整个句子。
而E中的twice应该是做为一个predeterminer，在后面可以+noun.就如songlovegt拿的OG上的004一样，double-作为predeterminer后面+noun figure

Choice A is phrased illogically in that it says the young adults in the 1979 survey somehow doubled the people in the 1977 survey, not that the number of young adults using cocaine doubled. The infinitive to double, used unidiomatically in B, carries the sense of in order to double. Again in choice C, twice the number would be preferable to twice those(people).It is not clear in choice D whether twice as much… refers to the number of young adults using cocaine in 1979 or the amount of cocaine they used. Choice E is best for this moderately easy question.

惭愧～查了一下CD的老帖子关于double和twice的讨论发现这里的double原来是前置词（predetermination）

those 指示代词单独使用不对即便要指代也只能指number 错
