Using a criterion based on an object’s color, astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies so distant from Earth that their light has taken 85 percent of the age of the universe to reach us.

A.      astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies so distant from Earth that their light has taken

B.       astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies that were so distant from Earth for their light to take

C.       astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies to be so distant from Earth such that their light takes

D.      23 galaxies were recently identified by astronomers to be so distant from Earth for their light to take

E.       23 galaxies were recently identified by astronomers as so distant from Earth their light has taken

我在AB两个选了很久，

没有选A，因为我觉得少了一个引导定语从句的that，也就是说so之前需要加that，难道这里可以省略吗？

B选项是哪里错了，请大家赐教

我选A

原因: so …that … 是GMAC的最爱

而且根据逻辑来判断A更合理：

有距离所以光要 Taken 85 percent of the age 。。。

A.      astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies so distant from Earth that their light has taken  这里so ....后面可以用来修饰galaxies，因为so前面没有 that were。如果这里so前面有were没that，这个选项就是错的

B.       astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies that were so distant from Earth for their light to take
                    their的指代有歧义，虽然可以就近指代，但仍然可以为galaxies或astronomers。如果这里的their改为the，或去掉，就对了

C.       astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies to be so distant from Earth such that their light takes

D.      23 galaxies were recently identified by astronomers to be so distant from Earth for their light to take

E.       23 galaxies were recently identified by astronomers as so distant from Earth their light has taken

定语从句尽可能简化，常常省略that/which和be动词！

补充 B 的错误

一、时态。天体的远近是客观存在的，因此用现在时，所以that were 错了

二、so...that 结构。变成 so...for 明显错误

不赞成 B 的 their 指代有问题，这里跟 A 一样，都指代 23 galaxies

同意。that were不简洁且不能用were。

B.astronomers recently identified 23 galaxies that wereso distant from Earth for their lightto take（galaxies后应该用are，陈述事实，不能用were；A is so adj. for B to do没错，但因为前面的identified 23 galaxies后直接跟定语从句修饰galaxies，而identified A+(as/to be) B中的B没有在该选项中找到对应项，所以错）

that were 这样的修辞 基本上都是错了 wordy 能省就省 因此 秒杀。

A选项解释的很正确，但B选项即便把their改为了the也不能算对，so...to...的结构是错误的
