我认为E是五个选项中相对最好的一个，大的结构是not so much -------but.

但是but symptomatic跟an illness or a physical condition不平行，且有maybe 的口语化表达错误。

大家怎么看呢？？

这题我会从后面的maybe入手，排除DE,这是无需置疑的。

ABC再从simple和simplely入手。因为这2个词意思完全不一样。排除BC。

夸张地说，这题完全不需要看题目就可以做出来了。当然我这是事后诸葛亮。

注意simply在本句中能反映出作者语气

这道题我也错了~做题的时候反复都觉得这道题有问题。现在看了大家的讨论有点明白了。

注意a physical condition ，如果说它不是一种身体情况明显不对，后面必须有修饰它的

我感觉得克服自己的脑海中的印象做这道题。

这道题想表达的意思是：大多数失眠不像（so much as)由于别的问题引起的病症那样的疾病或者身体不健康状况，这些问题可能仅仅是由于对于一些药物反映、旅行的焦虑或者面试前紧张的一种反应。

不知道大家看懂没。。

就是说，失眠可不是我们想象的那样一普通的症状，它其实很深奥的，不是我们平常想的那样，说白了失眠,他很神奇~~

俺的理解。

E so much an illness or a physical condition but symptomatic of another problem, maybe simply a reaction to certain medications 同C

所以只能选A

1.like不能表列举，排除BD
2.maybe太口语化（og上有这么写，新东方也有说看见这个就错），排除E
3.对比C和A，C中用了but感觉和A句想表达的意思不一样，而且C不简洁。

综上所述，选A

这里是两个略有不同的用法，很容易混淆
1. not so much... as ... (not 和so much是连着的) 是与其说...毋宁说...的意思
e.g. The ocean do not so much divide the world as unite it. 与其说海洋是把世界分隔开了还不如说是把世界连接起来了
e.g. The glittering wealth of Venice was attributable not so much to exotic spices as to commonplace salt, a commodity Venetians exchanged in Constantinople for the spices of Asia. (这貌似是某个GMAT题(A选项)，不过没找到出处)

2. (否定句) so much as ... 这个否定句可以是含有not ,no 或者without之类，大多数时候与后面的so much as 分开。但跟上面的idiom的不同之处就在于so much 和 as 是连着的
>意思可以是but rather:
e.g. I'm not looking at her so much as I am studying her hat. 我没在看她，只不过是在看她的帽子
>也可以是even:
e.g. From outside, no one could see so much as a light on in the house. 从外面只能看到房子里的灯而已
e.g. He just marched in here without so much as a by-your-leave and picked a book off my shelf!

首先如果能看出句子是一种解释，那么就应该感觉到 so much as 起码应该完整

由此C D E 干掉
B里symptomatic 是adj，肯定无法与 insomnia 平行干掉

此外看后半部分
B Cthat从句后太复杂
D E则把一个修饰部分提升到了句子主干的地位，这改变了句子叙述的重心。

答案肯定是A。二楼真相：
intended meaning: insomnia is not a physical condition but a a symptom of another problem that may simply be a reaction to certain medications
这里 simply 修饰 be 表示 insomnia 只是 reaction to sth,anxiety about travel
C 中 simple 修饰 problem: 变成insomnia是个很简单的问题，不是intending meaning
E simply 后面跟的名词本来搭配就错

且C 读起来很奇怪 problem may be as simple as when certain medications cause a reaction 这里我说不清但强烈感觉比较跟 when都不是这么用的

这句话读了好几遍，终于是看懂意思了

not A so much as B=not so much A as B，与其说是A，不如说是B

意思是：大多数失眠与其说是疾病或是生理反应，不如说是另一种问题引发的病症（比如对于药物的反应、旅行焦虑或是面试前的焦虑）。
