这道题目的正确答案是B，我不太明白national average是什么东西啊？觉得正确答案的average American也有问题，应该是单数可数名词不能单独存在啊，怎么还用单数呢？而且它和Americans of Middle Eastern descent也不对称啊！还有一个问题，was可以省吗？解释说可以，但是我不知道为什么，谢谢大家。

我觉得关于average American的问题就不用深究了啦，关键就是首先as必须成对出现，然后are是可以省的啊，在主语比较中，如果原句中是主谓宾完整的句子谓语动词才就必须补出避免产生歧义。

average American 一般的(或普通的)美国人,也就是美国大众
