A. is expected to make an offer to buy First Interstate Bank until a merge agreement is signed that includes a provision for penalties if the deal were

B. is expected to make an offer for buying First Interstate Bank until they sign a merge agreement including a provision for penalties if the deal was

C. is expected to make an offer to buy First Interstate Bank until a merge agreement be signed by them with a provision for penalties if the deal were

D. are expected to make an offer for buying First Interstate Bank until it signs a merge agreement with a provision for penalties included if the deal was

E. are expected to be making an offer to buy First Interstate Bank until they sign a merge agreement including a provision for penalties if the deal were

之前我选的是C，思考后觉得不对，分析如下，请NN指正。

B、D：虚拟语气中，was应该用 were，排除；

E：are expected to 中的 are 从原文逻辑意思看应该用单数，因此排除；

关于C的错误有2点（如还有其他错误，请指正）：

修饰歧义：with a provision for penalties 修饰的是them，但实际上其应该修饰的是a merge agreement；

代词指代错误：前面说的是one of the potential investors，后面用them，是否犯了代词指代不一致的错误？

请NN一定帮忙看看，这道题以前有人问过，但无人具体解答，非常感谢！

one of the potential investors是单数, FIB也是单数, them没有指代. C的be signed也没道理, 没必要用subjunctive mood. 而且sign agreement的应该是seller, 不是 investor, 所以我支持A, 干脆省了sign agreement的subject.

同意LS

until引导时间状语，后面跟一句话而且不用虚拟。所以 be signed错~

另外想说的是D项：are expected to be making an offer to buy， to be doing不好~

谢谢LS二位的解答；

觉得sign agreement的是本次“兼并交易”的双方：投资者与银行，直到双方签定协议投资者才肯进行兼并交易，所以选了C的signed by them...

但是A选项中的 agreement is signed that 中的 that 应该是修饰agreement 但它没有紧跟先行词，这样对吗？

Not one 对应的谓语应该为单数，if the deal为虚拟语气，until后面为句子

A中that…为agreement的定语从句，为避免头重脚轻，所以放在is signed后面。

B 中they的指代对象不清，was时态不对，主句是一般现在时没有理由无缘无故用过去时，用虚拟语气是可以解释的

C. until be signed不对

D、E的are 不对，因为not one of…是单数
