With A, "often green and striped, or have plenty of bumps and bruises" becomes attributes of the "cousins", which is not what the meaning is intended to deliver.  It should be the Heirloom tomatoes which are "often green and striped, or have plenty of bumps and bruises"

agree with frostone. in addition, the sentence after the word 'but' is not a whole sentence; it lacks the subject 'they'.

I agree with A too.

Heirloom tomatoes, grown from seeds saved from the previous
year, only look less appetizing than their round and red supermarket cousins,
often green and striped, or have plenty of bumps and bruises, but are
more
flavorful.

对 A 最大的争议是 "often green and striped" 有可能修饰 "cousins".  但是原句中 "round and red supermarket cousins"
已经明确表明 "round and red" 修饰 cousins,  不可能 cousins 同时被两个完全相反的状态修饰吧?

将 A简化:

Heirloom tomatoes (, grown from seeds saved from the previous
year,)

only look less appetizing than their round and red
        supermarket cousins,
(often green and striped, or have plenty of bumps and bruises,) but are
more
flavorful.

看上去句式简单明了.

这解释不对!

还是E对,

既然明白A 最大的争议是 "often green and striped" 有可能修饰 "cousins".那你还选?!

原文表达的意思是:这H西红柿啊,看起来不如它那红彤彤圆溜溜的近亲好吃,绿色的还带条纹,外表常有撞破和擦伤的痕迹,但是H西红柿的确更好吃.

同意A,E中的第二个They中间隔了bumps and bruises,不能清楚指代Heirloom tomatoes。
