请问，og解释中这句话什么理解：C is faulty because have elected, which is correct in tense, cannot idiomatically be followed by a participle such as retiring.
是因为没有elect doing sth.吗？还是什么别的意思？

elect作“choose”解时：
一种用法是elect to do sth.，如：elect to take the summer off(选择夏天休假)
一种用法是elect sth.，如：elect an art course(选修艺术课)

结合这道题，OG说not idiomatic就容易理解了，elect后面接retiring不符合习语，elect to retire才是习惯用法。你也可以勉强把retiring看作是第二种用法中的sth，但是强扭的瓜不甜呀，retiring在这里是动名词，用作sth也很别扭，sth最好是地地道道的名词。而且C里的instead of后面应该是名词，而facing也是动名词，也别扭。所以，明摆着E这个看着顺眼的答案，干吗要别别扭扭的选C呢？
