标题: Question about helping verb in comparison
I reviewed RON’s lecture about helping verb(a lesson in 2010) last night. And I have a specific question. Thanks~

Jack knows more about Jane than Bill.

This sentence is considered ambiguous.
1.     Jack knows more about Jane thanBill knows about jane.
2.     Jack knows more aboutJane than Jack knows about Bill.

How can I correctly present the latter withhelping verbs?
The former one can be:
1.     Jack knows more about Jane than Bill does.
2.     Jack knows more about Jane than does Bill.
These two both presents the idea that Jack knowsmore about Jane than Bill knows about jane

However, in this question.
file:///C:/Users/1/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image002.jpg

OA is E

The idea is that termites do significantlymore damage to homes than they do to branches.

Where is the difference between this oneand the example I wrote above?
What makes the helping verb in the examplefocus on what Bill does, but the helping verb in the OA focus on ”do to thebranches” not branches do to homes.
I know that branches cannot do damage tohomes.

Example:
Bees do more damage to people than hippo.
1.     Bees do more damage to peoplethan hippos do to people.
2.     Bees do more damage to peoplethan bees do to hippos.

Is the placement of do makes any different.

Thanks

First time to post a question. If I violatesome rules, please forgive me. Thanks~
