标题: 请教OG13语法的14题:主要纠结主语“Rising inventories”的单复数问题!!!已附上自己理解
14. Rising inventories, 【when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead】 to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth.

(A) when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead
(B) when not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, possibly leads
(C) when they were unaccompanied by corresponding sales increases, can lead
(D) if not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads
(E) if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

先说下我个人的理解哈:

1、开始做的时候,读原句没看懂,然后接着看B选项,一下知道说将存货量要和销量对等,要不就有危害什么的,然后A死去活来看不懂,排除;B先留着;

2、C选项,看到那个they,我又回去找主语,肯定是rising inventories了呀,是整个“举动”在做主语,所以这应该是单数了,然后C排除;

3、D选项,correspondingly那个位置应该是个形容词,所以排除;

4、最后剩了B、D,那原句意思比较一下,觉得提条件的话,用if好一点,就选了E。

然后问题来了>_<:

看解释的时候,OG说:plural subject(inventories)does not agree with the singular verb(leads).

但原句换一下语序就是: if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, rising inventories can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth.  如果在增加存货的同时,销售量没有伴随相同量的增长,就会导致blah。

所以提炼一下就是:rising inventories can lead to sth bad,

再提炼一下就是:doing sth可以导致sth。

额.........那主语不就是“rising inventories”这个单数了嘛?

上升的库存.....又不是库存的上升....

恩 这样解释就通了哈

但是你在读题的时候,rising inventories怎么理解成“adj.+n.”,而不是“V-ing+n.” 的呢?

而且E选项里面by corresponding increases in sales,也是侧重在说增长啊?那要前后一致地理解的话,就是库存的增长和销量的增长了?

我.....主要是纠结rising inventories的单复数问题

不过找到一个解释 很有道理的样子

说rise是不及物动词,所以放这rising就肯定是形容词了 rising inventories也就不是动名词组了~

都可以。但是要怎麽决定是哪个呢?要看剩馀部分的句意。

让我们来看完整选项组: Rising inventories, when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth.
A)When unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead
B)When not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, possibly leads
E) If not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

句意上,看到corresponding(相应的丶一致的),就知道两边应该要有性质上的对应
所以若像这三个选项,写的是 相应的increases in sales(销售额的增加,重点在「增加」这个动作)
那另一边的Rising inventories就应该当做一件事情的动名词(存货的提升),这样才是动作对应动作(相应的)

D)If not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads
而若像是这个选项,increased sales(增加的销售额重点在「销售额」)
那麽另一边的Rising inventories我们就要视为「上升的存货」,这样才是销售额对应存货(相应的)
所以这个选项会删掉,除了靠possibly改变句意外, 还可以靠先判断出主词Rising inventories是复数,排除leads。

C)When they were unaccompanied by corresponding sales increases, can lead 这个选项不讨论,sales increases没有这样用的。

an interesting explanation:

(http://gmatclub.com/forum/rising-inventories-when-unaccompanied-correspondingly-by-97784.html)

Rising inventories, blah blah, can lead to blah blah.

We can re-write this sentence as 'Inventories that are rising blah blah can lead to ...
Hence, inventories is the subject and rising is an adjective.

Having good friends is a wonderful thing.

We cannot re-write this as, 'Friends that we have are wonderful things'. This sentence has a different meaning.
Here, the subject is not friends. The subject is 'having good friends'.
Hence, it is a noun phrase. And 'Rising inventories' is not.
