答案：B
B中的has时态是否正确？before him表示时间应当是在Lincoln的行为之前，而且整个句子用过去时态。in young manhood 修饰discover,放在动词与宾语之间似乎也有问题
C中had learned 用过去完成时表示过去的过去，不是更好吗？

GMAT的语法题有一个原则：就是时态尽量保持原来的，当然不对的时候就必须改变。

before him表示时间应当是在Lincoln的行为之前，而且整个句子用过去时态，has learned似乎不太适用呀

C中一个非常严重的问题在于in young manhood和had learned靠得过近，可能被误解为修饰had learned。但其实它应该修饰discovering（主语是LINCOLN）
但B中的has learned我也觉得不是很好。

我当时选的也是A，但选B我想可能是主语与谓语放在一起（Lincoln knew）更好一些吧？因为在这里把它们拆开实在没有必要。

C确实改变了愿意。in young manhood 修饰the Yankee peddler 的行为，错误。
in young manhood 修饰Discovering ；如果把时态改动一下，before him修饰had learned，这样从时态上考虑就更好了：）
