Twenty years from now, students will no longer use printed books.
As the world wide use of e-books, many people wonder if students could abandon printed books twenty year from now. Some object to this idea that e-books would virtually replace the position of printed books because of their remarkable merits. On the contrary, I agree with such opinion that students’ book bags will not be filled with printed books in the near future.
Those printed books’ supporters hold the standpoint that the quality of printed books is softer than books in other forms, particularly the e-books. This argument may seem convincing at first, but we could not make the conclusion from the point of adults’ view, because adults have already got used to printed books. Look at the new generation, and you could deduce that in twenty years, students will become more and more familiar with e-books. They are raised in this situation: parents give them iPad or Kindle as a birthday present, and they use it in daily life to gain knowledge of the world. They could regard those electric media as friend, and they would be willing to use e-books in school instead of printed books.
As opposed to the views that printed books could keep quondam glory, I believe that e-books will be the most recommended choice for students. First of all, e-books are convenient to carry. Students could just take one e-book rather than carry loads of printed books anytime; thus teachers and parents would no longer worry about students’ health problems, such as backache and vertebra illness, caused by mass of paper materials.
Secondly, e-books provide an elegant way for students to take notes. Nowadays, many excellent software provide us approaches to take notes on e-books, and the notes could be easily modified and erased by a simple touch, which can certainly avoid the mess of trials to change handwritings. Thirdly, e-books are easy to share. Students who lack certain kind of books could ask their co-students and then get a considerable collection of books which can be kept permanently.
All the evidence goes to show that the tendency of e-books is being formed, and these better media for knowledge is replacing printed books. Taking advantage of this technology era, the improving forms of knowledge carry more weight than old-fashioned printed books. So why should schools and students refuse the chance to gain knowledge in a much easier way?
