Authoritative parents are morelikely than permissive parents to have children who asadolescents are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsiblyindependent.
(A)        Authoritativeparents are more likely than permissive parents to have childrenwho as adolescents are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsiblyindependent.
(B)        Authoritativeparents who are more likely thanpermissive parents to have adolescent childrenthat are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsibly independent.
(C)        Children ofauthoritative parents,
rather than permissive parents, are the more likely to be self-confident, have ahigh self-esteem, and to be responsibly independent as adolescents.
(D)        Children whoseparents are authoritative
ratherthan being permissive, are more likely to have self-confidence, a high self-esteem, and be responsiblyindependent when they are an adolescent.
(E)
Ratherthan permissive parents, the children of authoritative parents are the morelikely]to have self-confidence, a high self-esteem, and to be responsibly independentas an adolescent.

Competition in the mid-nineteenth centuryby large western farms gradually caused farmers in Pennsylvania to turn to livestock raising, but before that it was predominantly grain-producing.(A)  Competition in the mid-nineteenth century bylarge western farms gradually caused farmers in Pennsylvania to turn to livestock raising, but before that itwas predominantly grain-producing.(B)  Once predominantly a grain-producing state, competition in the mid-nineteenth century from large western farms graduallywas causing Pennsylvania’sfarmers to turn to livestock raising.(C)  Pennsylvania’s farmers were gradually caused to turn tolivestock raising by competition from large western farms in the mid-nineteenthcentury, but beforethat it was predominantly a grain-producing state.(D)  It was once predominantly grain-producing,but competition in the mid-nineteenth century by large western farms wasgradually causing Pennsylvania’sfarmers to turn to livestock raising.(E)   Pennsylvania was once apredominantly grain-producing state, but competition in the mid-nineteenthcentury from large westernfarms gradually caused the state’s farmers to turn to livestockraising.
說明:

1. before that 犯了代名詞that 的 「implied」錯誤,被暗示代表「Competition in the mid-nineteenth century by large western farms gradually caused farmers in Pennsylvania to turn to livestock raising」,這是美國人的口語英文,不是GMAT要求的standard written English
Competition in the mid-nineteenth century by large western farms gradually caused farmers in Pennsylvania to turn to livestock raising, but before that it was predominantly grain-producing.
(B)  Once predominantly a grain-producing state, competition in the mid-nineteenth century from large western farms gradually was causing Pennsylvania’s farmers to turn to livestock raising.
(D)  It was once predominantly grain-producing, but competition in the mid-nineteenth century by large western farms was gradually causing Pennsylvania’s farmers to turn to livestock raising.
(E)   Pennsylvania was once a predominantly grain-producing state, but competition in the mid-nineteenth century from arge western farms gradually caused the state’s farmers to turn to livestock raising.

2.(B) Once predominantly a grain-producing state, competition....。錯誤,同位語是 a ...   state,主語是competition犯了dangling modifier 的錯誤。
Competition in the mid-nineteenth century by large western farms gradually caused farmers in Pennsylvania to turn to livestock raising, but before that it was predominantly grain-producing.

Competition in the mid-nineteenth century by large western farms gradually caused farmers in Pennsylvania to turn to livestock raising, but before that it was predominantly grain-producing.
(E)   Pennsylvania was once a predominantly grain-producing state, but competition in the mid-nineteenth century from arge western farms gradually caused the state’s farmers to turn to livestock raising.

A mixture of poems and short fiction, Jean Toomer’s Canehas been called one of the three best novels ever written by BlackAmericans—the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, andRalph Ellison, author of Invisible Man.
(A)  Black Americans—the others being RichardWright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of InvisibleMan
(B)  Black Americans—including Native Sonby Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
(C)  a Black American—including Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man
(D)  a Black American—the others being RichardWright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of InvisibleMan
(E)  aBlack American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and RalphEllison’s Invisible Man

Jean Toomer’s Cane
(E)....Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man

1.while,as,when在GMAT语法中的区别是什么呀
2.which is and which is...
*which is A and B, A与B是adj,B是A的意思的进一步延伸,所以共用一个主谓
*which is A and is B,A与B都是adj,但是A与B属于不同类别,所以就要补出谓语
*which is A and which is B, A和B的词性不同,补出which。。。

Some students are confused about how to distinguish "状语成分" between " 插入语". Here are two examples from GMAT real questions.
1. Critical-thinking instruction is predicted on two assumptions: that there are clearly identifiable thinking skills that students can be taught to recognize and apply appropriately, and that if students recognize and apply these skills, they will become more effective thinkers.
( and that if students recognize and apply these skills, ....) => This structure bears no coma between "that" and "if", so it’s

2. Scientists have identified an asteroid, 2000 BF19, that is about half a mile wide and that, if it were to strike Earth, could do tremendous damage to part of the planet but would probably not cause planetwide destruction.
(and that, if it were to strike Earth, ... .) =>This structure bears a coma between "that" and "if", so it’s 插入语)

Another example of 插入语 :
NASA’smethodical approach to the exploration of Mars has not yet answered thequestions of whether biological life forms ever emerged on Mars and whether, presuming such life forms left fossil traces to begin with, those traces stillexist in some moist recesses of the cold and arid planet.
